Here is a little trivia brought to you by the Chicago Historical Society; half the city’s residents live on a street named after a deceased real estate developer, or his wife or child. Other streets have far more interesting and noble origins:
- Sheridan Road: Lt. General P.H. Sheridan hero of the Civil War. He was in charge of marshall law after the fire of 1871.
- Kenmore Avenue: named for the home of Col. Fielding Lewis brother of George Washington.
- Clark Street: named after George Rogers Clark, born in 1752. He captured Ft. Sackville at Vicennes and Kaskaskia during the Revolutionary War. The street was once called Green Bay Road since it connected Ft. Dearborn to Ft Howard in Green Bay, WI.
