Residents of The Morgan are as diverse as they are successful. With our reputation as being a lead choice in luxury living in Roger’s Park, our residents take pride in their community, neighborhood and professions. We know each of you have your own unique story of success, and we want to give you a platform to share, as a way of giving back. This “Residents Around Town” series will be ongoing, and provide you with a bit more information on your neighbors. Today we make our debut column with a resident we are proud to promote: Will Song, owner and head chef of Rogers Park’s bopNgrill.

bopNgrill first opened in Evanston in 2009 after Will realized he didn’t want to follow his career path into the fine dining. As a professionally educated and trained chef, Will wanted to offer food he likes: burgers, fries, rice, eggs and kimchi, among other ingredients. Much to his chagrin, the counter-service restaurant was a hit. Last August, Will decided to open his second bopNgrill location right here in Rogers Park (6604 N Sheridan). The dedicated owner devoted nearly every waking hour to building a fanbase in the neighborhood.

“I was sleeping in the back of the restaurant,” says Song. “I remember one night we had some freezer issue that made the room very loud and wet. I thought, ‘I can’t live like this anymore.’” Song did what anyone would: look for the best living options as close to the Rogers Park location as possible.

“The Morgan is really the ideal place to live in the neighborhood,” explains Song. “It’s so close to work, and it is the nicest complex in the area. I’m happy and proud to live in a great community.”

And we’re proud to have such a great business owner as a resident. Just like our work at The Morgan, Song’s restaurant is another fantastic beacon of change in the area. We’re proud to provide an upscale, high-service living experience, and Song is proud to provide delicious, high quality food options to the booming but close-knit neighborhood.

We’re not the only one who has noticed. Since opening, bopNgrill has received praise and coverage from Chicago Tribune, Redeye, ABC 7, Time Out Chicago, and most recently, the Food Network. The Korean-inspired burgers is set to appear on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives next week, August 13, 14 and 24.

“We’re looking forward to the episode airing,” says Song. “We know it will be great for business and of course the Rogers Park neighborhood.”

When asked if he has any future plans for his brand, Song showed that he has a good head on his shoulders. “We’re not going anywhere just yet. My big focus is to weather our planned upswing in business. We look forward to serving the Rogers Park area for a while to come.”

And we look forward to enjoying his burgers for a while as well. Say congratulations to Will next time you see him around, and don’t forget to enjoy some of his food.
